I still exist in 2023, I have a recent git, I run the webserver as www-data, and the repo is owned by root or other users, so I finally see some useful error log lines in my Apache error.log

- visit the `/config/` page: it must still work - install an old git version: it must still work - install a recent git version with `safe` mechanisms (assuming that your webserver is run by www-data, and the repo is owned by root or other safe different users, now you should get some errors in the error log, instead of a silent suppresion.
